5/28/08 - Early registration is closed

7/24 - MALCSistas!!

We're extremely grateful for the amazing turnout for this year's Summer Institute. As of this morning we have roughly 200 participants!! Since we only anticipated 150, the Banquet and Awards Dinner is FULL. We have reached full capacity. Please note that this does not affect people who pre-registered. More information will be giving at the registration table. Since all seating is on first-come-first serve, we ask that you arrive early. Participants that do on-site registration will be provided with a meal card for the University Dinning Commons. We apologize for the inconvenience.

7/16 - MALCsistas--Saludos de Salt Lake City!

The MALCS Summer Institute starts two weeks from today (and we're almost ready for you)! Attached is a revised draft of the program (pdf) that includes the panels, workshops, plenaries, caucus meetings, and all of our special events like morning yoga classes, morning walks, the canyon excursion, book signings, Noche de Cultura, a mural tour, and the baile at Mestizo Art Gallery and Coffee Shop. Please look at the program carefully as a number of session times have changed and, in some cases, individuals have been added or deleted from a panel. We'll of course have the final color program for you when you check-in at the lobby of the Heritage Center. I"ve also attached a handout with ground transportation and general information about coming to Salt Lake City. The last attachment is the registration/housing form that we still need from a number of you. We secured a few more rooms so please contact Estela <estela@malcs.net> if you or a friend are in need of a room.

The Site Committee looks forward to hosting your visit to the University of Utah. Please remember that all presenters must be MALCS Members. You can find the Membership form at malcs.net and then mail it along with your membership fees to MALCS Membership, 1404 66th St. Berkeley, CA 94702 (this is separate from Institute paperwork).

7/13/08 -

Dear Colegas--We have 150 women registered for this year's MALCS' Summer Institute! The rooms we reserved for the conference are full, however our housing office is giving us the opportunity to add a few more rooms this week. If you haven't requested housing or food and you would like to stay in the dorms we need you to email Estela <estela@malcs.net> before this Thursday July17th with your request and your arrival/departure dates. You then need to send the registration form with your checks asap. Nos vemos en Salt Lake City.--Dolores

Dear MALCSistas

We're continuing to prepare for this summer's MALCS Institute at the University of Utah.  Attached is a draft of our program.  We still need to fill in the details and include some information like the correct room assignments and the second writers workshop on Friday morning at 8am, but for now we thought it would be helpful to know when you are presenting and with who you are presenting.  The second attachment is general info that can be helpful to your visit including information on ground transportation, night life, and what to bring with you.

Mil gracias to Sonya Aleman for the work she is doing with our program, to Andrea Garavito and Karla Motta for their travel info, and to Susana Gallardo who will hopefully be able to get all this info on the website.

Nos vemos pronto --Dolores

5/5/08 - MALCS Members, Future Members, and other interested American Indian women, Latinas, and Chicanas:

3/27/08 - ¡Hola Mujeres!

The MALCS Summer Institute 2008 will be held at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City from July 30th through August 2nd. The site committee has been working hard to prepare for your arrival. We are looking forward to providing a space that inspires you to reunite, rejuvenate, and reconnect with old and new hermanas. This year’s institute is guaranteed to be intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually powerful.

Please note that the early registration deadline is May 5th. You will love our residential halls. These were built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and are very comfortable. Each room houses two people and two rooms share a bathroom!

Here are some of the Summer Institute events we have planned so far:

Plenaries:
• “We Belong: Re(claiming) Our Bodies and Our Ways of Knowing”
• “Women Speak Out: Creating Spaces Through Art”
• “Indigenous Dialogues Across the Americas”

*Thursday evening outdoors excursion to one of our many surrounding beautiful canyons. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, as we avoid the hot and dry weather of the season!
*Friday Noche de Cultura: Navajo storyteller and dancer, Lucille Hunt, and of course the opportunity to participate at an open mic.
*Saturday Baile at the brand new, locally-owned (MALCS Member) Mestizo Gallery and Coffee Shop
